How to start controlling in Romania

The Training Department within Romania uses a piece of software called Moodle. This software allows us to keep track of students, advising them of their progress through feedback from training sessions organised through the Moodle software, keep documents and training aids in the same place and provide small quizzes it help students.

Controller Training

This is a brief overview of how to get started and more detailed information can be found within Moodle:

1. If you are not yet a member of VATSIM, go to http://www.vatsim.net and join specifying VATSIM Europe Division (VATEUD) and Romania as your chosen vACC. This registration should be immediate and you will be able to login to the network after a short period once the servers have updated.

2. Once you have registered with VATSIM, register with the moodle site at http://www.rovacc.org/moodle so that you can access the Moodle software and training department.

3. Once logged into Moodle click to enrol in the Aerodrome Controller course which will give you access to a step to step guide with resources on how to get to Aerodrome Controller level. Have a read of the Aerodrome manuals on Moodle and on the VATEUD Training Department website. Also download and install Euroscope along with the Romania files located in the downloads section. Have a read of the Euroscope manual and get familiar with it and read our brief guide on how to setup Euroscope.

4. Complete the brief quiz on the Moodle website which will help prepare you for your Observer to Student theory exam.

5. When ready login to Eurotest and take the Observer to Student exam. Once finished and happy with the answers, submit the exam for assessment. This will happen immediately and you will receive your mark. If you fail don't panic, look at the questions you got wrong and why. Also contact the Training Department in Romania for help - we don't bite!

6. If you pass, well done! Let the Training Department know that you have done the test and we will schedule a session with you to guide you through Euroscope and how to start controlling.

7. When ready, normally after a few sessions, you will be approved to control all airports on Delivery, Ground and Tower but Otopeni which requires some further training and an over the shoulder (OTS) session. Once you get the OTS, you will then be able to control the Delivery, Ground and Tower positions at all airports in Romania.

Now your training to Approach Controller starts after some time to let the Aerodrome skills settle in. More information for further advancement is on the Moodle site.
